Janice Orchard is an Australian artist who specialises in the modern impressionist style with a touch of realism.
She teaches classes in oil, watercolour, acrylic and pastel as well as drawing techniques. Living in the Bass Coast region of Victoria, Janice is also available for workshops and loves to travel to interesting locations to paint in the landscape.

It was my pleasure to develop the concepts for the promotional brochure for the Gatescape project and to draft media releases to make the public aware of what was happening in the Bass region for the Creative Gippsland festival 2013.
Assisting artists to partner with businesses to host the finished gates and liaised with schools to decorate gates and have them on display in the school gounds was an integral part of my job as well as uploading events to Creative Gippsland Website and Facebook
As a practicing artist I also had pleasure in representing the Bass region at the Regional Living Expo at Melbourne Exhibition Buildings.
The launch of the Great Gippsland Gatescape, Gippsland Arts Festival 2013 for the Bass Coast region was held at Goat island Gallery with the commissioned gates on display in the gardens for the day.
Members of the public took part in a Bus Trip to Open Studios which allowed them to visit many artists within the Bass region and also neighbouring Koonwarra Art Trail.

Shearwater Festival 2012
The Nobbies Centre, Phillip Island
Together with festival organiser, Dr Laura Brearley and Nature Park Ranger, Graeme Burgan, Janice Orchard was curator of an art and poetry exhibition as part of the inaugural international Shearwater Festival for 2012 at the Nobbies Centre on Phillip Island.
The Shearwater Festival, with music, dance and story telling, is a celebration of the flight of the short tailed shearwater birds and their annual migration from Canada and Alaska to their nesting grounds on Phillip Island.
The festival art exhibition also incorporated a display of work by notable invited indigenous Australian and Canadian artists.
Over a period of three months, it was Janice Orchard's role as exhibition coordinator to develop an entry form and data base of artists providing work for the exhibition.
Liasing with volunteers from the Artists Society of Phillip Island, festival organisers and staff from the Phillip Island Nature Parks, an amazing display of work on the theme of the shearwaters was on public view during the run of the festival.

Sculpture on the Lake 2012
Once again Archies on the Creek will be hosted a major sculpture exhibition as part of the Creative Gippsland Art Festival 2012.
Artwork was on display in the gardens, under the 100 year old oak trees and along the pathways.
And at the same time “Textile Inspirations”, there was an exhibition of unique work by Christine Shaw in The Hunt Gallery.
Selected artists were invited to submit 2 pieces of sculpture for the Creative Gippsland Art Exhibition at Archies on the Creek in May with this year’s theme of “emotion”.
With the choice of materials left up to the artist, there was a wide range of sculptural diversity. Kiln fired clay, twisted metal, found objects, wood and Hebel as well as textiles have been formed into three dimensional art to delight and surprise.
Notable sculptors, Bill Binks, Bob Hickman, John Carlson, John Mutsaers, Martin Keogh, Rhonda Hunt, Sian Adnam and Trudy Barclay were among those exhibiting in the 2012 Creative Gippsland Art Festival

Under the umbrella of Creative Gippsland Arts Festival, Archies on the Creek is hosting the first major sculpture exhibition at the venue with 15 of the region’s top sculptors creating works specifically on this year’s theme of “Light”.
Metal, glass, rocks and jewels are just some of the materials that have been transformed into amazing artworks which have been placed in the gardens, pavilions and around the lake. Some are even suspended from the one hundred year old oak trees that have become a landmark at the venue.
Artists included are Andrew Kasper, David Kopelman, John Carlson, Marlene Kasper, Martin Keogh, Patrice Mahoney, Paul Hearnshaw, Ricardo Alves Ferreira, Trudy Barclay, Amanda Robbins, Patricia Hill, Karen Sandon, Helen Bristol, and Tim Robbins as well as delicate silver and gold work by Glenys Harms.
An interactive sculpture on the history of light is also included. The brainchild of Patrice Mahoney and Karen Sandon, visitors will be encouraged to add their own touch to an installation which will grow throughout the run of the exhibition.

"Art on the Soul of
your Shoe"
Up to 40 businesses in the main shopping area agreed to host artists work on display in their windows for the enjoyment of shoppers and visitors. In taking the art to the people, some of whom may not go to art shows, we could showcase how many wonderfully creative artists we have in this region.
The Black Diamond Arts Festival proved to be a vibrant event with art in the windows and buskers and performers on the streets of Wonthaggi.

As part of Creative Gippsland - be inspired 2010, the bar of the Kilcunda Ocean View Hotel was transformed into a temporary art gallery for an evening. Live music, fine wine, good food and great art entertained a packed house.

To mark the milestone of ten years of operation for Catchment Management Authorities throughout Victoria, the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (WGCMA) was proud to celebrate with the community through an innovative artistic representation of Gippsland.
As recipients of a grant from the Regional Arts Fund, the WGCMA in partnership with the Gippsland Integrated Natural Resources Forum (GINRF) developed an innovative arts project for the regional community, Creative Environment
The WGCMA recognises the strength of collaborative projects and the strength of the local arts community. Through the Creative Environment project three of the region's leading artists, Susan Purdy (photography), Col Suggett (sculpture) and Bill Young (painting and drawing), were commissioned to work with nine emerging artists in a six month mentoring process to produce this exhibition.

Twenty four clients of Garnham House Planned Activity Groups enjoyed the rewarding experience of painting their own self portrait.
Funded by Regional Arts Victoria, the project titled “On the Face of Wonthaggi,” was coordinated by artist, Janice Orchard, with the assistance of Ricardo Alves Ferreira and the staff at Garnham House and Bass Coast Regional Health.
Through the use of paint and collage, the project embraced the telling of stories as part of the continued celebration of the Centenary of Wonthaggi. Participants, while painting their colourful self portraits, told of their interests and life experiences. The finished works, together with the printed stories, created a wave of inspiration amongst other organizations and service providers.
The public opening of the exhibition was held at Over 2 Kates’, at McBride Ave, Wonthaggi on Monday 17th of May. Through June the portraits were on exhibition at the Inverloch Community Hub with a reception on Wednesday 2ndJune at 1:30pm.
After the initial public display, “On the Face of Wonthaggi” went on tour with showings at various Bass Coast Age Care facilities, starting from July 2009.
Staff at Garnham House, Anne Broadway, Rhonda Bateman and Ricardo Alves-Ferreira assisted Janice Orchard with the running of the workshops and preparation for the exhibition.

Inverloch Clock Tower Murals
A joint project between The Inverloch Clock Tower Committee Inc
Rotary Club of Inverloch and the Artists of Inverloch
It was a lot of work but an experience I will never forget when I was engaged by the Inverloch clock Tower committee to supervise a group of eight artists. My brief was to design and produce eight panels of glass tiled murals depicting local history which now proudly stand in place on the corner of Reilly Street and A'Beckett Street in Inverloch, Victoria.
Each artist produced a painting based on the history of the area which, under my guidance, was then reproduced by the artists in glass tiles on panels.
After the murals were installed as part of the Rotary Clock Tower, the original artworks were then sold at a gala event and public auction.
